The final undefeated team in the NBA has been defeated at last. The Boston Celtics ended Cleveland’s record-setting 15-game win streak by beating the Cleveland Cavaliers 120-117 in the NBA Cup on Tuesday. The Cavs’ impressive beginning to the season, equaling the second-best in NBA history, couldn’t compete with the defending champions.

Celtics’ Dominant First Half, Strong Finish

Cleveland discovered themselves facing a significant deficit in the beginning, falling behind 65-48 by halftime. Nevertheless, the Cleveland Cavaliers demonstrated their ability to bounce back by mounting a strong comeback in the second half. In the fourth quarter, they reduced the lead to only two points, but the Boston Celtics managed to stay ahead when it counted most, fending off a late push from Cleveland Cavaliersto clinch the victory.

Jayson Tatum Leads Celtics to Victory

Jayson Tatum excelled for Boston with 33 points, 12 rebounds, and 7 assists. His overall display of skill and talent was crucial in propelling the Celtics to victory. Al Horford scored 20 points, Derrick White had 19 points, and Jaylen Brown finished with 17 points and 8 assists.

Mitchell and Mobley Shine for Cleveland

Even in defeat, Donovan Mitchell shined for Cleveland with a remarkable 33-point performance. Evan Mobley contributed 22 points, yet their performance was insufficient to maintain the Cavs’ undefeated streak.

A Promising Rivalry

The victory of the Celtics served as a reminder to the NBA that the Eastern Conference still goes through them. Despite losing their opening game, Cleveland’s strong beginning indicates they will be a formidable competitor in the Eastern Conference. As the season goes on, a possible Boston Celtics vs. Cleveland Cavaliers showdown in the conference finals could be very interesting to keep an eye on.
