According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, Ben Simmons of the Brooklyn Nets will begin the 2024-25 training camp without any restrictions. Bernie Lee, Simmons’ representative, verified that the 28-year-old has received full approval to partake in activities following his second back surgery within a span of three years. Lee stated that Ben has been completely cleared and will be fully participating in the beginning of camp. “He is eager to begin.”
Injury-Plagued Tenure with the Nets
Simmons has faced challenges with injuries since he joined the Nets. He participated in a mere 15 matches last season and has been seen in only 57 games since the 2022 trade including James Harden. This indicated a notable decrease for the ex-2018 Rookie of the Year and three-time All-Star, whose aggressive way of playing has lessened since his tenure with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Decline in Production Raises Questions
While playing for the 76ers, Simmons scored an average of 15.9 points per game on 11.6 shot attempts. Playing for the Nets, he averaged a decrease in scoring to 6.7 points while taking only 5.4 shots per game. His ability to drive to the basket has significantly declined, and Brooklyn is optimistic that a successful training camp will assist in restoring his previous performance level.
