Ben Simmons, the Brooklyn Nets guard, faces another setback as he is set to miss an additional two weeks due to ongoing nerve irritation in his lower back, marking nearly two months sidelined from action.
The Nets revealed that while Simmons has shown improvement in his affected area over the last fortnight and has intensified his individual court sessions, his status remains unchanged, necessitating a further two-week absence from play.
Ben Simmons injury woes have been a recurring theme throughout his NBA career, starting with missing his entire rookie season due to a foot injury after being selected as the top pick in the 2016 NBA Draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. His time with the 76ers was marred by injuries, culminating in a missed 2021-22 season due to a back injury amid contract disputes.
Arriving in Brooklyn before last season, Simmons’ playing time was limited to just 42 games. Since the 2018-19 season, he has not featured in more than 58 games in a single campaign.
The 27-year-old has made a brief appearance in six games this season, averaging 6.5 points, 10.8 rebounds, and 6.7 assists, being in the fourth year of a substantial five-year, $177 million contract.
Ben Simmons’ absence adds pressure to the Nets’ lineup as they grapple with a 13-13 record heading into a critical game against the New York Knicks, having suffered three consecutive losses and dropping four of their last five games. Should Simmons remain sidelined for the stipulated two weeks, he’ll miss a minimum of nine upcoming games, further challenging the team’s momentum and stability.
