Charlotte Hornets will not have their star point guard, LaMelo Ball, available for a minimum of two weeks because of a strained left calf. After feeling uncomfortable post-game against the Miami Heat on Wednesday, Ball sat out of Friday’s matchup against the New York Knicks. The team will reassess his condition on December 11.
Ball was performing exceptionally well before getting injured, scoring an impressive average of 40.3 points in the last four games. This season, he is achieving his highest career statistics, averaging 31.1 points and making 4.7 three-pointers per game, placing him in the second position in the NBA. He is also averaging 5.4 rebounds, 6.9 assists, and 1.1 steals per game.
Injuries Continue to Shadow Ball
Since getting selected as the third overall pick in 2020, Ball has faced challenges with injuries, especially to his ankles. In spite of his unquestionable skill, these obstacles have restricted him to only 202 appearances in five seasons. Ball is the lone Hornets player to receive a max contract extension, highlighting his crucial role in the team.
Hornets’ Road Ahead Without Ball
The Hornets are now entering a crucial period without their main offensive leader. Ball’s ability to create opportunities for teammates and put points on the board has been the primary motivation for the team’s performance this season. The roster will be forced to rise to the occasion and fill the gap in his absence.
LaMelo is now focused on recovering and getting back stronger to maintain his outstanding performance. In the meantime, the Hornets need to maneuver through the next fortnight. Aiming to remain competitive despite their main player being off the court.
