Angel Reese Double-Double Streak: Sky Rookie Sees Incredible Run End at 15 in Loss to Liberty
Chicago Sky rookie Angel Reese aimed to extend her remarkable season on Saturday after achieving her 15th consecutive double-double just days earlier. However, her streak came to an end during a matchup against the New York Liberty, the same team against which it had begun in June. Reese finished the game with eight points and 15 rebounds in the Sky’s 81-67 defeat. She struggled with her shooting, going 3-of-13 from the field and missing her only attempt from beyond the arc. The Liberty managed to secure the victory despite being without their WNBA MVP, Breanna Stewart, and defensive standout Betnijah Laney-Hamilton.
In the closing moments of the game, Reese had a chance to achieve another double-double, but the Liberty effectively neutralized her by surrounding her with four defenders on the left baseline, preventing her from getting the necessary points.
During her remarkable 15-game streak, Reese averaged 14.8 points and 13.2 rebounds while shooting 42% from the field. Her first career double-double occurred on June 4 against the Liberty when she recorded 13 points and 10 rebounds, although the Sky lost that game 88-75. Known for her rebounding skills, Reese achieved a season-high 19 rebounds in a 85-77 victory over the Atlanta Dream on July 2. The seventh overall pick in this year’s draft boasts averages of 13.8 points, 11.8 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game with shooting splits of .411/.222/.752.
Looking ahead, Reese will have the opportunity to start a new double-double streak when the Chicago Sky face off against the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday at 10 p.m. ET.
