A’ja Wilson, the Las Vegas Aces’ star forward, has kicked off this WNBA season with a vengeance, following a narrowly missed MVP title last year. Her stellar performance continued on Wednesday night, propelling the Aces to an 80-66 victory against the Minnesota Lynx.

Despite struggling with her jump shot, Wilson dominated inside the paint, showcasing a variety of scoring techniques. She finished the game with an impressive stat line: 29 points, 15 rebounds, three assists, two steals, and four blocks. Notably, she scored 16 of her points in the second half, helping the Aces pull away for the win and improving their record to 4-1.

Wilson’s consistency has been historic; she has now recorded at least 20 points and 10 rebounds in each of the Aces’ first five games this season. This streak sets a new WNBA record for consecutive 20-point, 10-rebound games.

Her season averages are equally remarkable: 26.2 points, 13.2 rebounds, 1.4 steals, and 2.6 blocks per game. A’ja Wilson ranks second in scoring, first in rebounding, and third in blocks across the league, making her the only player to be in the top three of these categories simultaneously. Should she maintain this level of play, Wilson could become the first player in WNBA history to average 25 points and 10 rebounds for an entire season.

Under Wilson’s leadership, the Aces boast the league’s most potent offense, scoring 108 points per 100 possessions, a margin significantly ahead of the next-best team. This marks the fourth consecutive season the Aces have led the WNBA in offensive efficiency.

Currently sitting at 4-1 and in second place behind the Connecticut Sun, the Aces will continue their road trip with a game against the Atlanta Dream on Friday. With A’ja Wilson in top form, the Aces look poised for another strong season.
