Adem Bona, from the 2023-2024 UCLA Bruins men’s basketball team, was chosen in the NBA draft despite the team’s disappointing season. During the draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, Bona was selected as the 41st overall pick in the second round by the Philadelphia 76ers.

High School Stardom and UCLA Career

Bona started his basketball career at Prolific Prep high school in Napa, California, where he was a five-star prospect and a McDonald’s All-American. He took his talent to UCLA and spent two seasons honing his skills. During his freshman year, Bona had an average of 7.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. He made it to the Pac-12 All-Defensive team and was named Pac-12 Freshman of the Year due to his exceptional defensive abilities.

In his second year, Bona saw a marked improvement in his performance. On average, he scored 12.4 points, grabbed 5.9 rebounds, made 1.8 blocks, and recorded 1.1 steals per game. He was recognized with first-team All-Pac-12 honors and named Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year for his outstanding performance.

NBA Prospects and Combine Performance

Bona is seen as a power forward/center prospect in the NBA, standing at 6-foot-9 and weighing 243 pounds. During the NBA combine, he demonstrated his athleticism by achieving a 40″ vertical jump and possessing a wingspan of 7 feet 4 inches. His unstoppable drive and strong work ethic make him noticeable, even though it can result in him getting into foul trouble at times.

Surprisingly, Bona started playing basketball at the age of 13. The progress he has made is clear in his better performance in free throw shooting; during the last 15 games of the 2023-2024 season. Bona successfully made 76% of his free throw attempts, with a run of 16 consecutive successful shots.

Joining a Legacy of NBA Bruins

Bona is one of four starters on the 2022-2023 UCLA team who have joined the NBA. His past colleagues consist of forward Jaime Jaquez Jr.. Who was picked by the Miami Heat in the first round of the 2023 NBA draft. Guard Amari Bailey, selected in the second round by the Charlotte Hornets; and guard Jaylen Clark, selected in the second round by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
