Anthony Bennett, who was the NBA first overall pick in the 2013 draft selected by the Cleveland Cavaliers, has reportedly been let go by the Sono SkyGunners, as per Alberto De Roa of HoopsHype. Bennett showcased his skills during his single college basketball season at UNLV, averaging an impressive 16.1 points, 8.1 rebounds, 1.0 assists, and 1.2 blocks per game. He shot 53.3% from the field and 37.5% from three-point range in 35 games.
Following his outstanding college season, Bennett was chosen as the first overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft by the Cleveland Cavaliers.
His most recent NBA appearance was in the 2017 season when he played for the Brooklyn Nets. During that season, he averaged 5.0 points and 3.4 rebounds per game while shooting 41.3% from the field in 23 games, including one start.
This summer, Bennett signed with the Sono SkyGunners as a free agent, but according to Alberto De Roa of HoopsHype, he has now been released.
Throughout his NBA career, which spanned four seasons, Bennett played for various teams, including the Brooklyn Nets, Toronto Raptors, Minnesota Timberwolves, and Cleveland Cavaliers.
His career averages in the NBA stand at 4.4 points and 3.1 rebounds per game, with a shooting percentage of 39.2% from the field and 26.1% from beyond the arc in 151 regular-season games.
Bennett also had stints in the G League, where he averaged 13.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game. He boasted a 48.2% field goal percentage and a 42.2% three-point shooting percentage in 68 games.
In addition to his NBA and G League experience, the 30-year-old forward has played internationally and had a stint with Jerusalem in 2021-22, where he averaged 6.3 points and 3.3 rebounds per game. He had an impressive 51.4% field goal percentage and a 44.0% three-point shooting percentage in eight games.
