The Phoenix Suns defeated the Golden State Warriors 134-105 on Tuesday night in a game that featured seven technical fouls, Klay Thompson’s first career ejection, and 34 points from Devin Booker. Deandre Ayton added 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Throughout the third quarter, both sides lost their composure at separate points. All the technical fouls were called just six minutes later. Thompson was given two quick ones and was then dismissed after arguing with Booker, who also received a technical as a result of the confrontation.
Thompson had two points at the end of the game on 1-for-8 shooting, including 0 of 5 from 3-point range. In 651 regular-season games, the five-time All-Star got ejected for the very first time.
Draymond Green of Golden State, Steve Kerr, Chris Paul, and Ayton of Phoenix were also given technical fouls for separate outbursts in the third quarter, with the majority of this ire directed toward the referees.
The Suns’ lead increased to 105-86 at the end of the third as the techs continued to mount. The reigning NBA champions were unable to rally without Thompson. Booker made 10 of his 19 field goals and 11 of his 14 free throws. The two-time All-Star added seven assists. With 21 points, Steph Curry led the Warriors. Green finished with 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists.
The pelicans overcame Mavericks in a Close Game
Shorthanded New Orleans survived Luka Doncic’s most recent prolific performance to defeat Dallas thanks to Rey Murphy III’s 22 points. In addition to Zion Williamson (hip bruise) and Brandon Ingram (concussion protocol), the Pelicans were without a third starter, Herb Jones (hyperextended knee), who is their best defender.
However, the available Pelicans answered with a full-court press in which eight players scored in double figures. Among them was Dyson Daniels, a first-round draught pick, who finished with 11 points in 22 minutes. That was the first point of his professional career in the second quarter.
All eight of Murphy’s attempts, including four 3-pointers, were successful. In a spot start, Naji Marshall scored 15 points. CJ McCollum finished with 11 assists and 14 points. Doncic finished with 37 points, 11 rebounds, and seven assists, but his last-second 3-point effort bounced over the front rim.
