Las Vegas Aces seals second consecutive over Sun and hopes for one more to lift the title for the first time in the history of Aces.

One victory away to lift the title

The no.1 seeded Las Vegas Aces thrashed the no.3 seeded Connecticut Sun in two of the five-match WNBA finals. Both sides have never won a WNBA title so far. With Las Vegas Aces dominating, it will be really difficult for Connecticut Sun to make a quick turnaround in Game 3 to save the title.

The Aces eliminated the Seattle Storm 3-1 in the semifinals after sweeping the Phoenix Mercury in the best-of-three opening round. The Sun eliminated the 2021 champion Chicago Sky 3-2 in the semifinals after defeating the Dallas Wings 2-1 in the first round to qualify for the final.
The Las Vegas Aces pulled away in the second half for an 85-71 victory in Game of the 2022 WNBA Finals. Aces were led by well-known trio of A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray.

Notable Performances

Wilson, who won league MVP this year, had 26 points, 18 of which came in the opening period. For her fifth straight double-double, she added 10 rebounds that she pulled in. Gray scored 21 points, dished out 8 assists, and stole 3 rebounds. On Tuesday, Plum, who was limited to six points on 1-of-9 shooting in Game 1, made up for it by scoring 20 points and dishing out seven assists. Among all, A’ja Wilson was the most dangerous thing ever happened to Connecticut Sun. She was just unstoppable with her spectacular performance to take Aces past the finishing line.

Connecticut Sun fought well

The Sun displayed a challenging game to keep things under control and demolish the lead to three early in the third quarter. However, the Aces overcame the margin with a 19-8 run to pull away and take a 14-point lead into the final quarter.
The Connecticut are renowned for their defense, limited Las Vegas to 67 points in Game 1, but the Aces outscored them in the third. Tuesday night, Las Vegas shot 51.6 percent from the field while pounding the ball inside. Wilson, who made 10-of-13 shots, deserves a lot of the credit for that. With her vigorous attempt around the rim, she immediately set the tone.
The Connecticut have to rejuvenate the momentum in their home ground to remain in the race for WNBA title. They started the game energetically but struggled to takeover the opposition in the second half.
