Indiana Pacers center James Wiseman ruptured his left Achilles during the season debut versus the Detroit Pistons. The injury happened in the first quarter when Wiseman uncomfortably planted his left leg following a three-point shot. As reported by ESPN’s Shams Charania, a complete recovery schedule will be established in the next few weeks.
Injury Woes Continue for Wiseman
Wiseman’s career has been hindered by injuries ever since he was chosen as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. During his first season with the Golden State Warriors, he played in only 39 games because of knee and wrist injuries. He subsequently missed the whole 2021-22 season due to a torn meniscus. Although Wiseman had a solid 2022-23 season with the Warriors and Detroit Pistons, his potential is still overshadowed by his injury complications.
Pacers’ Frontcourt Depth Tested
The Pacers added Wiseman this offseason to bolster their frontcourt. Regrettably, the team will probably be without him for the remainder of the season. Compounding their worries, Isaiah Jackson is listed as day-to-day due to a groin injury.
Myles Turner Takes the Lead
With Wiseman out, starting center Myles Turner will take on additional responsibility. Backup big men such as Obi Toppin and rookie Jarace Walker must also rise to the occasion and fill the gap.
Looking Ahead
Wiseman’s injury is a significant setback for the Pacers, who had great expectations for their latest acquisition. While facing the difficulties of shallow frontcourt resources. The team will rely significantly on Turner and anticipate Jackson’s quick comeback to the game. The Pacers’ strength will be crucial in tackling this early-season challenge.
