Kyrie Irving took on a larger role in the game due to Luka Dončić’s absence, scoring 30 points and guiding the Dallas Mavericks to a 106-94 victory against the Utah Jazz on Saturday evening. The Mavericks now have a 5-1 record despite their star player being absent from the game because of a wrist injury.

Dominant Performance Without Luka

Kyrie Irving took the lead for Dallas Mavericks by scoring a 3-pointer in the first possession and maintaining that momentum throughout the game. The Mavericks swiftly established a strong 40-22 advantage by the conclusion of the opening quarter. The team dominated the entire game, with Quentin Grimes scoring 24 points, P.J. Washington registering 16 points and 11 rebounds, and Daniel Gafford notching 14 points and 11 boards.

Struggles for Utah

The Jazz struggled to match the Mavericks’ offensive performance, only shooting 35.8% from the field. Utah faced difficulties mounting a comeback despite Lauri Markkanen scoring 19 points and Walker Kessler recording a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds. The Jazz were missing the complete backing of John Collins, who scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds but couldn’t change the outcome.

Key Moments in the Game

Irving’s initial 3-point shot established the mood, and Dallas was always in the lead. Despite Utah having a brief surge in the second quarter and coming within five points in the fourth, Irving’s well-timed 3-pointer and Washington’s strong performance kept the Mavericks’ lead secure. Utah’s offense struggled in the last quarter, only managing to score 18 points, ultimately securing the victory for Dallas.

The Mavericks’ third consecutive win showcased their depth while playing without Dončić.
