Zion Williamson has only appeared in six out of the New Orleans Pelicans’ 16 games this season because of a left hamstring injury.
Zion Williamson has terminated his collaboration with the Creative Arts Agency (CAA), as reported by The Athletic’s Joe Vardon and Sam Amick. The division arises as more doubts increase about his “contract situation,” mainly due to his continuous injury issues.
Injury Woes and Contract Questions
A crucial clause is included in Zion’s contract signed for $197 million in 2022, lasting five years. Due to not meeting a games-played standard in the 2022-23 season, the Pelicans have the option to release him without any financial consequences after the 2024-25 season.
Injuries have been a problem for Williamson ever since he joined the NBA as the number one overall pick in 2019. Although he played in a career-best 70 games last season, he was unable to participate in the postseason due to a hamstring injury. During which the Pelicans lost all their games to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Long Road to Recovery
Reports indicate that Williamson is still far from being able to return. As he undergoes rehab for his most recent hamstring problem. The 23-year-old has received various treatments, but his return has been postponed due to setbacks. Shams Charania reported that there are worries about Zion’s ability to stay healthy as he might be sidelined until mid-December.
Pelicans Struggle Without Zion
The Pelicans have a record of 4-12, which is the second-lowest in the Western Conference. New Orleans is having difficulty staying competitive due to a long list of injuries. That includes CJ McCollum, Jose Alvarado, Dejounte Murray, and Herbert Jones.
