The Houston Rockets are delaying giving maximum extensions to their young talents, Jalen Green and Alperen Şengün, as they near restricted free agency post the 2024-25 season. ESPN’s Shams Charania has stated that although the Houston Rockets have extended offers, neither Green nor Şengün is currently guaranteed to receive a maximum deal, which could lead to discussions during free agency.

Green and Şengün Eager but Focused on the Game

Jalen Green, renowned for his dynamic scoring abilities, has stated his interest in a contract renewal but is concentrating on the upcoming campaign of Houston Rockets. He told the Houston Chronicle that his primary focus is on the upcoming season with the current players. Green’s increased value is due to his strong performance at the end of last season and his career-best rebounding numbers. Moreover, he is still focused on developing team chemistry and pushing for a spot in the playoffs.

In the same way, Şengün, who scored a career-high 21.2 points per game last year. Furthermore, has expressed desire to remain with Houston Rockets. “We will figure it out,” Şengün told reporters in September. Şengün’s outstanding display last year also earned him the third spot in the Most Improved Player rankings, solidifying his importance in Houston’s future.

Strategic Moves Ahead of Free Agency

Houston Rockets decision to postpone maximum offers could be driven by financial tactics. The Houston Rockets can preserve extra cap space for future free agency by waiting. Just like the Philadelphia 76ers did with Tyrese Maxey.

Even if Green and Şengün have to be patient for their next contracts. Houston’s delay doesn’t mean they won’t be part of the team’s future strategy. As both stars progress, they are still crucial to the Rockets’ future path.
