According to reports, the Denver Nuggets are still hesitant to offer forward Aaron Gordon a maximum contract extension of four years and $150 million. Brian Windhorst from ESPN mentioned that the team is optimistic about reaching an agreement for less than that sum. Gordon, with two years left on his current deal, has a $22.8 million player option for the 2025-26 season.

Gordon’s Role and Denver’s Calculated Approach

By agreeing to a max extension, Gordon would see his yearly average salary rise to $37.5 million, placing him as the ninth highest-paid power forward in the NBA for the 2026-27 season. Because of his versatility on defense and his skills without the ball on offense, the Nuggets must make a challenging decision. Out of the eight power forwards with higher salaries, seven have been All-Stars, a milestone that Gordon has not reached yet.

Optimism for an Extension Remains High

Although there is uncertainty surrounding the max contract, Gordon and the Nuggets share optimism. At media day, Gordon showed his affection for the team, saying, “I love the players in this organization.” I have a strong adoration for the coaching team. I wish for us to complete it. His remarks indicate a readiness to engage in discussions and remain part of the company.

Nuggets GM Hopes for a Productive Agreement

Nuggets GM Calvin Booth reiterated Gordon’s thoughts, underscoring the forward’s crucial role in the team’s achievements. “He has played a crucial role in our accomplishments.” Booth expressed optimism about reaching an agreement that benefits both parties and ensures his presence for an extended period.

Gordon’s Impact on the Nuggets’ Success

Aaron Gordon has been instrumental in assisting Nikola Jokić in leading the Nuggets to win the 2023 championship. During the previous season, he averaged 13.9 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. His presence on both offense and defense cements his importance as a key component in Denver’s championship puzzle.
