According to CBS Sports, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics, who led his team to the 2024 NBA championship and won an Olympic gold medal, has not yet made it into the NBA’s top five players. Despite Tatum’s dominance, he is still on the verge of joining the exclusive elite group in the league.

What Tatum Needs to Reach the Top

Tatum has stood out with his exceptional performance, being among a mere three players selected for the All-NBA First Team in the past three seasons. Nevertheless, Jack Maloney from CBS Sports proposes that Tatum might have to earn additional accolades, like Finals MVP, in order to solidify his position among the top players.

Maloney notes that even though Tatum did not secure the Eastern Conference or Finals MVP titles. He was still the main reason behind Boston’s 18th championship. Proving his capability to lift Boston to higher levels has already been demonstrated. But achieving more consistent dominance could be crucial to solidify his position in the top five.

Will Tatum Break Through?

With the arrival of the 2024-25 season, he has an opportunity to elevate his performance. Guiding the Celtics to another championship. A feat they haven’t accomplished in many years, might be the accomplishment that ultimately elevates him into the top five. The equipment is ready, and Tatum understands that nothing in the NBA is certain.

By the end of the season, with his talent and work ethic. He may be prepared to ascend to the upper echelon of the NBA.
