As Seattle Storm dominates, the India Fever have lost 10 of their last 11 games.
Storm’s afternoon game was quite similar to their previous matches against the bottom-placed Fever. Early on, Storm won the first two games against Fever this season. Strom claimed a 16-point victory in early July when Indiana didn’t reach 60 points. Additionally, they registered a 22-point victory four days ago.
The Storm defeated the Fever for the sixth time in a row in an 81-65 victory on Sunday.
In spite of Indiana (5-22) cutting the Storm’s advantage to as little as three points in the third quarter, the Storm (17-8) reemerged in the fourth quarter at Climate Pledge Arena. The Storm had surged out to a double-digit lead in the first quarter. The Storm have won 12 of their last 15 games, extending their winning run to four games, tying a season-high.
Stewart reached the game-high 25 points in 27 minutes and Jewell Loyd and Tina Charles scored 15 points apiece.
The Storm displayed their extensive class in the transition when Stewart found Loyd in the right corner. Prior to Sunday’s game, the Storm was well prepared to face the Fever. They had played five games in the nine days before their last game, which was four days ago. Stewart claimed that after four days off, it might be difficult for players to get back into “game rhythm,” but Seattle was able to do so during practice.
The Storm went on a 9-0 run at the end of the first quarter to take a double-digit lead after the game’s early lead changes. Ezi Magbegor started 4 of 4 shots from the field, taking advantage of layups that were made inside thanks to penetration passes. Stewart who has the highest points per game average dominated in the second quarter and cashed in two three-pointers. Moreover, Sue Bird stole the show in the second quarter to record her 71st career steal.
Later in the third quarter, Indiana was down by three points and Charles re-energized the Storm by going on a 7-0 run. Despite Indiana calling a timeout, the game was all but over when the Storm led by 15 points.
