Formidable Wings seal their first season series victory over Connecticut Sun.
Connecticut Sun center Brionna Jones slammed several points during the first half of the game. Dallas Wings dominated the game from the first quarter, thanks to the incredible performances from Arike Ogunbowale and Teaira McCowan. Arike dropped a three-pointer for an 80-69 lead and McCown restricted Brionna Jones’ layup attempt with only 32 seconds left.
Dallas (10-12) earned its first series victory against the Sun in team history by defeating Connecticut in two of three games this season. For Dallas, who ended a three-game losing run, Satou Sabally scored 14 points in just her second match since June 12. Marina Mabrey scored 12 points, while Allisha Gray added eight rebounds. Dallas had a 41-38 edge at the half, and Gray clinched a 63-54 dominance with a shot in the lane as the third quarter ended.
Despite the loss, Courtney Williams added 25 points for Connecticut (14-8) to display a challenging game for the Wings. Brionna Jones scored 16 points along with DeWanna Bonner who scored 11 points on 3-of-10 shooting. Jonquel Jones claimed 10 points and several rebounds.
According to their head-to-head records and previous matches, it was predicted that Connecticut Sun will once again emerge victorious. However, Dallas Wings surprised the audience and proved all the predictions wrong. Dallas Wings doesn’t have a pretty good record against Sun; however, a few more victories will make it stress-free for them to take over Sun in the future.
