The forward received an award after competing in five Olympic Games, while the captain was named the best domestic player.
The committee of the 3rd Spanish Basketball Awards, which will be hosted in Gran Canaria on August 14th has recognized Sergio Llull and Rudy Fernández. The tiny forward received recognition in the Special Awards category for matching the record-holding 5 appearances at the Olympic Games, while the Real Madrid captain won the Best Domestic Player award.
The panel observes that Real Madrid had a standout season under the leadership of captain Llull, in which, despite the setbacks encountered along the way, the squad made it to four finals and won two trophies: the league and the Spanish Super Cup. Rudy, who has participated in the most Olympic Games of any Spanish player, has now equaled Navarro and Gasol in that regard (five). The legendary Spanish basketball player Carmelo Cabrera, a madridista, will also be honored at the ceremony for his career and the groundbreaking impact his playing style had on the game.
