When The Dream traded up in the draught to choose Rhyne Howard as the first overall pick, they had great expectations for her. By averaging 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.5 steals per game, she has been able to live up to the hype. With 16 and 21 points, respectively, to help the Dream start the season 2-0, Howard quickly established herself as a valuable member of the club. She scored a career-high 33 points in a tight victory over the Indiana Fever a week later.

She was selected the Eastern Conference Player of the Week on May 16 in recognition of her strong start. In the first four games of the season, she has scored 80 or more points, becoming the sixth rookie in WNBA history to do it. After scoring 135 points on May 29—the sixth-most points by a WNBA rookie in fewer games—Howard was later voted the league’s rookie of the month on June 1.
Howard after her dream move to Dream
Rhyne Howard, in her first interview after being drafted to Atlanta, said she is super excited and ready to shine in the Dream shirt. “I just want to do that by my competitive spirit and the will to never give up and always fight and just maintain my composure and stay calm, cool, and collected,” Howard said.
When asked about refining her game, she said, “So, I personally think I’m very versatile, so whatever position I’m playing, I like to match for those positions, and if they need me to work on something specific, so whatever the case may be, I’m willing to do it.”
