Chicago Sky Flying High
The Chicago Sky is having a wonderful season and this week wasn’t much different. They won against the Atlanta Dream and cemented their place on top of the table East for the Commissioners Cup. Though they had an unfortunate night against Indiana, losing their first match of the season, they still sit comfortably in the top spot.
The Win against Atlanta Dream (106-100)
The Chicago Sky defeated the Atlanta Dream in overtime behind a season-high 23 points from Kahleah Copper and 10 rebounds from Emma Meesseman.
The squad managed to win despite Candace Parker’s absence due to a knee injury thanks in part to Allie Quigley’s 17 points, Azura Stevens, and Rebekah Gardner’s 15 each.
Aari McDonald finished with 20 points for the Dream, while Asia Durr scored 21 for Atlanta. Destiny Slocum, a new member of the Dream squad, scored a career-high 10 points, and Howard and Cheyenne Parker each contributed 16 points.
First Defeat of the season by Indiana Fever (89-87)
The Indiana Fever defeated the defending champion Chicago Sky 89-87 after trailing by 13 points at the half. NaLyssa Smith, a rookie forward for the Fever, set a career-high with 26 points and 11 rebounds to lead the team in scoring and rebounding.
Rookie guard Lexie Hull scored a career-high 10 points, and Kelsey Mitchell ended with 13 points and tied a career-high nine assists. For Chicago, big Emma Meesseman finished with 12 points and eight rebounds, while guard Courtney Vandersloot finished with 13 points and seven assists for the Sky.
