The shortest, but one of the fastest
Crystal Dangerfield may be one of the shortest WNBA players in the league, but she is also one of the quickest, energetic and she can single handedly take the game to her opponents. In her best season she managed to score 16.2 points per game and her worst was 6 per game but, in that season, she did not start a single game, she was also unable to play after her 3rd game.
Achievements before joining WNBA
She was an honor student in High School and played as a point guard for her team. During his 4 year stay with the side, the school won 2 state titles 2016 and 2015. She competed for USA Basketball, taking home gold in 2013 and 2015. In her junior and senior years, Dangerfield received the title of Miss Basketball Tennessee. She won the Gatorade Player of the Year award three times in Tennessee.
She was a finalist for the Gatorade national honors and the Naismith Prep Player of the Year Award. She won the award for girls’ basketball player of the year from The Tennessean three times in a row. She was named the Morgan Wootten National Player of the Year in 2016 and a McDonald’s and Jordan Brand Classic All-American.
Dangerfield was ranked third overall and as the finest point guard among the top 100 female athletes in the 2016 women’s class by ESPNW.
During her college career she scored 1480 points in 134 games, one of the seasons was called off because of COVID-19. Though she did not win anything major with her college side, she was a decent performer. For many it was surprising seeing a 5’5 player running rings around her opponents.
Why does she have a bright future?
If you look towards her past achievements in more detail, you will see that she is a consistent performer and you know what to expect from her. She may not have great games every night, but she can be used against the slower defenses with great effect. Her speed, dribbling abilities and accuracy is dangerous.
The weak point is her blocking, her size does not allow her to tackle some of the taller players in the game. But with time she will learn to utilize her strengths more. The WNBA, often lacks charisma and energy on the court something the young Crystal has a lot off.
