Derrick Labrent Jones Jr. is an American professional basketball player, currently playing for the Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played for the UNLV Runnin’ Rebels during his college basketball days. Derrick has played for quite some teams since he signed with Phoenix Suns in September 2016 after going undrafted in the 2016 NBA draft. He reached NBA Finals in 2020 with Miami Heat after joining them in December 2017. He then went on to sign with Portland Trail Blazers in November 2020 and was then traded to the Bulls in August 2021.

During the 2020 NBA All-Star Weekend, Jones defeated Aaron Gordon in the Slam Dunk Contest. In the second round, they both earned perfect scores on their first two dunks, requiring an overtime round. Jones won by scoring a 48 after taking off just past the free-throw line to finish a windmill slam; Gordon obtained a 47 after dunking over 7-foot-6-inch (2.29 m) Tacko Fall after they both earned perfect scores on their initial dunks. The Heat advanced to the NBA Finals in 2020 but were defeated by the Los Angeles Lakers in six games.

Portland Trail Blazers (2020–2021)

Jones signed a two-year, $19 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers on November 22, 2020.

Chicago Bulls (2021–present)

Jones was acquired by the Chicago Bulls on August 28, 2021, along with a first and second-round pick, in a three-team sign-and-trade that also included the Cleveland Cavaliers. Jones injured his right knee in a 112–138 loss against the Brooklyn Nets on January 12, 2022. The Bulls stated the next day that he suffered a bone bruise and would be out for at least four to six weeks, however, the timeframe was later upgraded to two to four weeks.
