Former G League player Chance Comanche, who recently played for the Stockton Kings, faces an open murder charge alongside his girlfriend, Sakari Harnden. Las Vegas police revealed this news on Sunday, linking them to the death of 23-year-old Marayna Rodgers.
Rodgers, a medical assistant from Washington state, was reported missing on December 7 after meeting Comanche and Harnden on December 5. Harnden was arrested on December 13 by Las Vegas police, while Comanche was apprehended on December 15 by the FBI in Sacramento.
Initially facing kidnapping charges, both individuals’ charges were later updated to open murder following an investigation that led to the discovery of human remains in a Henderson, Nevada desert area. These remains were identified as belonging to Marayna Rodgers by the Clark County Coroner.
Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department stated, “Detectives determined that Harnden and Comanche were responsible for the murder of Rodgers.” As a result, charges against them have been altered to open murder following coordination with the Clark County District Attorney’s office.
Following his arrest, Comanche was released by the Stockton Kings. The team had played against the G League Ignite in Henderson on December 5, the same day Comanche and Harnden met Rodgers. Comanche’s last game for the Kings was on December 12, with three games played after Rodgers’ murder.
Comanche, 27, entered professional basketball after going undrafted in 2017. He played in the G League and abroad in Turkey, making a single NBA appearance for the Portland Trail Blazers in April 2023.
Court records indicate Chance Comanche is scheduled to appear in court in Sacramento on Tuesday.
