Adidas, Kevin Durant, and Anthony Edwards: A Social Media Spat Over Signature Shoes

Adidas and Kevin Durant recently engaged in a lighthearted yet spicy exchange on social media, all sparked by Minnesota Timberwolves’ rising star Anthony Edwards and his impending signature shoe release with the brand.

As anticipation builds for Edwards’ debut Adidas shoe hitting the shelves in mid-December, the young player took to promoting his kicks and made an interesting pitch. He expressed his desire to see Phoenix Suns forward Kevin Durant donning his signature shoes. However, Durant didn’t exactly embrace the idea and responded with a bit of disapproval, candidly sharing his thoughts.

The response from Durant didn’t sit well with Adidas, prompting the brand to fire back with a now-deleted comment that took a playful jab at Durant’s future in the league, hinting at an impending retirement. There was even a follow-up message suggesting their initial reply was intended to come from an anonymous or alternate account, alluding to the ongoing speculations surrounding Durant’s use of burner accounts for social media interactions. This banter, though amusing, doesn’t seem likely to sway Durant, given his longstanding lifetime contract with Nike.

Away from the social media banter, Edwards himself is making waves on the court. The Timberwolves find themselves perched atop the Western Conference standings, propelled by Edwards’ standout performances. He’s charting career highs in points, rebounds, and assists, showcasing his immense growth over 17 games this season.

Despite the social media buzz, Edwards and the Timberwolves have their sights set on the court battles. With their next face-off against Durant’s Suns slated for April, Edwards has a score to settle after Durant’s commanding performance in November, where the Suns secured a convincing 133-115 victory over Minnesota, led by Durant’s 31-point spectacle. This anticipated rematch down the line might just add a touch of spice to their ongoing social media banter.
