Thunder’s Historic Shooting Show: A Turning Point in Team History

The Thunder had an extraordinary shooting display during a commanding win over the Blazers, adding to their impressive weekend, which hinted at a turning point in their history.

The momentum started on Saturday against the established Golden State Warriors. The Thunder forced overtime with an incredible buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Chet Holmgren and went on to defeat the four-time champions. Holmgren and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander combined for 76 points, marking a significant regular-season triumph for the Thunder, one of the biggest in franchise history that didn’t involve Kevin Durant or Russell Westbrook.

Continuing their surge, the Thunder faced the rebuilding Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday. Despite Portland’s injured backcourt, Oklahoma City secured a dominant 134-91 victory. The standout wasn’t just the win but the remarkable efficiency in their scoring, marking one of the most exceptional shooting performances in NBA history.

What made it even more impressive was the team effort. The Thunder’s bench contributed significantly, shooting 52% from the field and 53.1% from beyond the arc. Despite facing an underwhelming defense, this performance showcased a comprehensive team effort.

This extraordinary display reinforced the Thunder’s potential. Over consecutive nights, they demonstrated their ability to challenge top-tier teams on the road while comfortably handling lesser opponents. Their 10-4 record currently ties them for the Western Conference’s top seed with the Minnesota Timberwolves, signaling the end of their rebuilding phase. The Thunder have officially arrived, making a resounding statement about their capabilities.
