Zion Williamson and the New Orleans Dilemma
Speculation is starting to build around the frosty relationship between the sidelined NBA superstar, Zion Williamson, and his team, the New Orleans Pelicans. In the 2021-22 season, this third-year forward has yet to make an appearance, even as the Pelicans cling to hopes of securing a spot in the NBA Playoff Play-In tournament.
Remarkably, reports suggest that Zion has severed communication with the franchise and hasn’t made an effort to reach out to the Pelicans’ recent star acquisition, shooting guard C.J. McCollum, a development that has ruffled feathers in NBA circles.
While it’s clear that Zion may have his sights set on larger markets in the future, the wise course of action for the Duke’s power forward would be to focus on returning to the court and regaining his health as a priority for the Pelicans.
It’s essential to note that he is still operating under a rookie contract, which pays him significantly less (tens of millions less) than the potential extension that awaits him. If he can’t manage to do so, history shows that injury-prone players often face challenging financial repercussions.
