Looking at the history of the NBA and investigating the greatest players of all time, Tim Duncan is one of those giants. Two of the NBA MVP titles and five championships with the Spurs loudly tell about the man’s domination. Thus, discussions of his greatness have been recently revived on the “Gil’s Arena Podcast” which provided some biases of NBA stars, who had relationships with Jordan, including Tracy McGrady.
Gilbert Arenas’ Surprising Revelation
In a recent podcast, ex-NBA player Gilbert Arenas “spat some real truth” about Tim Duncan that many fans did not know about. Arenas has a story from a photoshoot with Adidas with himself, Duncan, Kevin Garnett, and Chauncey Billups where he said that although Tim Duncan was a two-time NBA champion he was still waiting for McGrady to arrive. There was a report that Duncan said, ‘Wait till T-Mac comes so we can shut this sh*t down.’ The fact that an insistence such as this one captures a man as unassailably intelligent and accomplished as Duncan eager for McGrady is a very different image from the stereotypical effect of the reserved star.
Brandon Jennings Fires Back
Not all the people supported Arenas’ opinion. The same thing was said by another panelist, Brandon Jennings arguing that the statement is false as the current NBA star Anthony Edwards is far better than Tracy McGrady. Jennings also stated that Yao Ming was the player with the best aura in the NBA, turning the discussion into a different angle.
What Could Have Been: T Mac, Duncan, and Grant Hill
Notably, McGrady once showed a lot of enthusiasm at the prospect of playing as a teammate with Duncan. Recently in 2022, McGrady felt that he, Duncan and Grant Hill joining the Orlando Magic had the potential to achieve different championships. Unfortunately, that dream never came to fruition and shows future meetings between two future NBA legends.
Duncan’s Legacy Stands Tall
But the debates and the ‘what ifs’ can still be thrown out into the wind because the fact remains that Tim Duncan has left his mark in NBA history. His strong and consistent leadership together with other factors helped Spurs to become a dynasty and left a footprint in basketball.
