Suns’ Kevin Durant Knocks His New Kd 16 Nike Signature Shoe: ‘It’s Just Another Pair of Kicks’
Kevin Durant, known for his candid nature, remains true to himself even aftersigning a lifetime contract with Nike earlier this year. His association with Nike dates back to his debut in the NBA in 2007. This year, the Nike KD 16 was introduced to commemorate his 16th season in the league. Surprisingly, not everyone shares his enthusiasm for this new signature shoe, including the 13-time NBA All-Star himself.
When asked about the KD 16, Durant, sporting the “Ember Glow” colorway of his signature shoe during Suns media day, offered a straightforward perspective, saying, “It’s just another pair of kicks, man. It’s the 16th installment, so it’s nothing extraordinary, brother. It is what it is, it’s KD’s. You just know they’re going to be on my feet every year.”
Nike, on the other hand, had a contrasting viewpoint, expressing their excitement through an official post from the Nike Basketball account: “Calling home about these right now.”
The KD 16, priced at $160, is marketed as a lightweight and comfortable shoe, featuring a combination of Nike Air and Zoom Air. The multi-layered mesh is designed to provide a well-worn, comfortable feel, while the sole’s grooves and ridges resemble watch gears, delivering multi-directional traction. Despite these features, Durant’s endorsement suggests that there may be room for improvement.
As is customary, other players also made a statement with their choice of footwear on media day. Portland Trail Blazers point guard, Scoot Henderson, donned the PUMA Scoot Zero, making him the seventh player in NBA history to debut with a signature shoe. In the meantime, LeBron James unveiled the LeBron 21 to mark his 21st season in the NBA, but he opted to arrive at Lakers Media Day wearing his LeBron X Low “Championship Pack” instead.
