Probe Initiated: NBA and Authorities Investigate Allegations of Inappropriate Relations Involving Thunder’s Josh Giddey and Minor
The NBA has launched an inquiry into potential misconduct involving Oklahoma City Thunder’s Josh Giddey and a minor, as stated by league spokesman Mike Bass on Friday. The Newport Beach Police Department in California is also actively examining the matter, as reported by ABC7. Sgt. Steve Oberon disclosed to the station that they are probing the possibility of a criminal offense.
Initial allegations concerning Giddey surfaced on social media on November 22nd.
Despite the allegations, Giddey has remained eligible to play and has participated in Thunder games following the claims. Ahead of the team’s recent loss to the 76ers on November 25th, Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault provided insight into Giddey’s clearance to play.
“He’s available and will play. There’s been no change in his basketball status,” Daigneault explained. “I’m refraining from commenting on anything beyond that. Based on the information we currently have, this is the stance we’ve taken. Frankly, it’s not even a decision, to be frank with you.”
Commenting on the ongoing investigation, Daigneault added, “At this juncture, it’s a league matter; the ball is in their court.”
Following a practice session on Friday, Giddey engaged with the media but chose not to address the allegations.
“I understand the curiosity around this, but for now, there’s nothing further I can share,” Giddey mentioned. “I appreciate the question, but I don’t have any comments at the moment.”
Giddey, aged 21, was the sixth overall pick from Australia in the 2021 NBA Draft and is currently in his third professional season.
