Reportedly Houston Rockets Kevin Porter Jr. charged with assault and strangulation in New York, as stated in a recent report. This legal action stems from an alleged altercation involving his girlfriend, former WNBA player Kysre Gondrezick, and both charges he faces are felonies.

According to ABC News Kevin Porter Jr. charged for the incident that occurred as Porter Jr. was returning to a hotel where he and Gondrezick were staying after a night out. Gondrezick, apparently upset with his late return, locked the door. Porter Jr. eventually gained entry with the assistance of hotel security and is accused of physically assaulting Gondrezick. The precise details of the incident remain unclear at this point.

NBA spokesperson Mike Bass issued a statement on Monday acknowledging the reports and stating that the league is in the process of gathering additional information regarding the situation.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t the first legal issue involving Porter Jr. In August 2020, he faced accusations of assaulting a woman and pulling her hair during an altercation in downtown Cleveland. During that incident, the woman claimed that Porter ripped out her hair extensions while arguing with Porter’s sister and alleged that the Rockets guard also punched her. However, no charges were filed against him in relation to that incident.

In November 2020, when he was still with the Cleveland Cavaliers, Porter Jr. was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm after being involved in a single-car accident. He was subsequently released after posting bail of $4,000.

Following one season with the Cavaliers, Porter Jr. was traded to the Houston Rockets in 2021 due to an incident in the locker room where he expressed anger that his locker had been reassigned to someone else. This episode reportedly involved him shouting, throwing food, and being combative. Despite attempts by Cavaliers’ general manager Koby Altman to defuse the situation, Porter Jr. was instructed to clean out his locker, and his teammates were informed that he would no longer be part of the team. Four days later, he was traded to the Rockets.
