Reggie Jackson introduction to the Philadelphia 76ers took a bit longer than expected on Tuesday, as the newly signed guard made his way from the practice gym to address the media. When he finally appeared, he wasn’t alone—longtime friend and former teammate Andre Drummond was right by his side, having just wrapped up a workout together.
The first question posed to Jackson was about his decision to join the Sixers. Without hesitation, he pointed to Drummond. “That guy,” Jackson said with a smile. “Being around familiar faces, getting to come back—it’s great to play with Andre again, and Paul George too. The roster is stacked, and that was a big part of my choice, along with the chance to do something special here.”
Jackson and Drummond share a long history, having played together on the Detroit Pistons from February 2015 to February 2020. Their bond remains strong. “That’s my brother,” Jackson said. “We’ve stayed close ever since our Detroit days. He knows my highs and lows, and it’s the same for me with him. Our families are connected, so I’m excited to play with Andre again, and I hope our chemistry translates well on the court.”
At 34 years old, Jackson is coming off a season where he played 82 games for the Denver Nuggets, averaging 10.2 points, 3.8 assists, and 1.9 rebounds. He understands that his role with the Sixers, who already have Tyrese Maxey and Kyle Lowry at point guard, may be more limited. However, he’s ready to adapt and contribute in any way he can, much like how Cameron Payne adjusted his role last season.
“My job is to do whatever it takes to win,” Jackson said. “Whether that’s being a great locker room presence, sharing knowledge, or staying ready to play whenever I’m needed. I’m looking forward to learning from Tyrese, especially after his well-deserved contract extension, and from K-Low, who’s a Hall of Famer. My goal is to be a great teammate and to enjoy the process. That’s something you appreciate more as you get older in this game.”
Jackson’s experience with successful teams, including earning a championship ring with the Nuggets, gives him insight into what it takes to make deep playoff runs. “It’s about continuity, hard work, preparation, and sticking to your principles,” he explained. “And honestly, just wanting it more. If you go through the right process, you give yourself the best chance to achieve something special.”
In addition to Drummond, Reggie Jackson is also reuniting with Paul George, a former teammate from their time together on the Los Angeles Clippers. While Drummond was the focus on Tuesday, George’s presence on the Sixers was another factor in Jackson’s decision.
“They’re getting a very confident worker in George,” Jackson said. “He’s one of the most confident and smoothest players in the league. There’s nothing he can’t do—he’s a three-level scorer and a high-level defender. He’s a superstar who’s still hungry and has a lot left to give. I can’t wait to see what he does in a Sixers jersey.”
