NBA veteran Patrick Beverley recently stated he is contemplating a transition outside of the NBA to Israeli Basketball . The guard, aged 36, had the option of signing one-year contracts with two NBA teams.

Interest from Detroit and Houston

According to Christos Tsaltas from Sportal, Beverley attracted attention from the Detroit Pistons and the Houston Rockets. Nevertheless, Beverley opted to depart from the NBA and join Hapoel Tel Aviv in the Israeli Basketball Premier League.

A Familiar Path Abroad

Beverley has experience playing internationally rather than just in the United States. Following his selection in the second round of the 2009 NBA Draft, he competed in Ukraine, Greece, and Russia. He became a member of the Rockets in the NBA in 2012.

An Extensive NBA Career

From 2012 onwards, Beverley has played for a total of seven NBA teams. He played for the Rockets and the Los Angeles Clippers for his first nine seasons. He signed with the Minnesota Timberwolves for the entire 2021 season. During the 2022-2023 season, he divided his time playing for both the LA Lakers and the Chicago Bulls. He began the previous season playing for the Philadelphia 76ers and ended it as a member of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Potential Leadership in Detroit

Beverley had the potential to be the perfect leader for Detroit’s second unit in the 2024-2025 season. While playing for the Bucks, he maintained an average of six points, four rebounds, and three assists each game, with a 36 percent accuracy in three-point shooting. He was close to averaging one steal and one block per game on defense.

Choosing a New Challenge

Despite Detroit’s desire for experienced leadership and the inclusion of important veterans during this offseason, a minimum contract for veterans was not sufficient to attract Patrick Beverley, instead of that, the guard from Chicago will go to Israeli Basketball, where he will keep playing basketball internationally.

Beverley’s recent decision signals a new phase in his long career, demonstrating his preparedness for new challenges and opportunities beyond the NBA.
