New York Knicks Jalen Brunson, the guard, has been suffering from a broken left hand that he injured during the match in game 7 against the Indiana Pacers and has since undergone surgery. The injury took place in the third quarter of the second match of the Eastern Conference semifinals, which the Indiana Pacers easily won with a score of 130-109.
Injury Details and Recovery Timeline
This is a huge loss for the Knicks because Brunson was a major asset for them all season long, especially through the playoffs. New York Knicks will release a statement stating that Jalen Brunson will miss six to eight weeks of his broken hand. Furthermore, reserve player Bojan Bogdanovic had surgery on his left wrist and has his timeline for recovery set to the same period. Surprisingly, the team did not give more information regarding those procedures.

Brunson’s Postseason Performance
Still, as a result of the injury, Jalen Brunson scored 17 points in the match, which was the lowest result in a playoff run in which he was very effective. He achieved a 40+ point target in five games and the playoffs, becoming just the fourth NBA player to achieve that in four consecutive games. Brunson averaged 32. 4 points for the game in playoffs and this is just behind Joel Embiid, who averages 33 points per game in the playoffs.
Impact of Injuries on the Knicks
In addition to losing their regular key players, the Knicks had many injuries during the regular season and playoffs, affecting their bench and playmaking. Bojan Bogdanovic who needed surgery, was injured in game 4 of the first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers. He had scored 13 points from the spur in game 1 and was still a significant factor until his exit.
The Knicks were dealing with other injuries in addition to Brunson and Bogdanovic. David Fizdale’s team had impeccable young talents; however, Julius Randle suffered season-ending shoulder surgery in January, and Mitchell Robinson required ankle surgery during the playoffs. These injuries have made the Knicks struggle to find ways to field a team as they approach the next season.
The Knicks will have to wait for the recovery of their key players, including Brunson and Bogdanovic, as they plan for the next season.
