In the latest edition of the FIBA World Ranking Women, sponsored by Nike, several nations have reason to celebrate as they make significant upward strides.
Belgium, fresh from their historic victory and crowning as FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 champions, have ascended one spot. This achievement is particularly noteworthy as it places them jointly at their all-time high of sixth place. With a total of 654.6 points, they have surpassed neighboring France, who stand at 643.8 points. Belgium is now just 0.8 points behind Canada, and the top five positions remain unchanged. Meanwhile, China, victorious at the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup 2023, maintains a steady second place.
Brazil has made a remarkable return to the top ten by surging seven places to claim the eighth position with 612.6 points. This achievement follows their stunning triumph at the FIBA Women’s AmeriCup 2023, where they secured their sixth title by defeating the USA in the final.
Nigeria has also enjoyed an identical climb of seven spots, landing at the 11th position with 528.9 points. This impressive rise comes on the heels of their dominant performance at the FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2023, where they clinched the championship for the fourth consecutive time.
Despite Mali’s third-place finish in the tournament, their consistent performance has propelled them upward by a significant 13 places, securing the 16th position with 362.1 points. Meanwhile, Senegal, the silver medalists, have moved up 11 places to claim 20th place with 316.3 points.
Elsewhere on the rankings, Hungary’s outstanding journey to the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket 2023 Semi-Finals has pushed them back into the top 20. They have climbed five places to settle at 19th with 342.5 points. Germany, making their return to the competition after 12 years, impressed and secured an 11-place jump, landing at 25th place with 298.5 points.
Finally, Iran has achieved a remarkable ascent, moving up 26 places to reach the 52nd position with 135 points. This surge follows their participation in the title game of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup Division B 2023 in Bangkok.
This edition of the FIBA World Ranking Women, presented by Nike, takes into account adjusted Competition and Region Weights, reflecting each nation’s performances over the past eight years.
