Over the weekend, sports enthusiasts witnessed a groundbreaking moment as a Michael Jordan card fetched a staggering $2.928 million at auction. The prized possession, a 2003-04 Upper Deck Ultimate Collection autographed Jordan Logoman card, numbered one out of one, went under the hammer with Goldin Auctions.

This auction marked the card’s inaugural appearance in a public auction, setting a new record for the highest price ever paid for a Jordan card at auction.

The Logoman series of cards is renowned for their exclusivity, usually limited to just one card per player and adorned with an NBA logo patch. What set this particular Jordan Logoman card apart was its inclusion of a Bulls jersey, making it a unique collector’s item. Notably, the card received a pristine “10” grade from the esteemed card grader PSA back in 2022.

Prior to its auction, speculation surrounded the card’s whereabouts, with Goldin Auctions founder Ken Goldin revealing that it was previously thought to be “long lost.”

Goldin emphasized the unparalleled historical significance of the card, describing it as the epitome of Michael Jordan collectibles. He hailed it as the finest and most valuable Jordan card ever produced, making it a highly coveted treasure among enthusiasts.

While this auction set a remarkable benchmark for Jordan memorabilia, it’s worth noting that the overall record for a sports card remains held by a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle card, which sold for a staggering $12.6 million in August 2022. Additionally, the title for the most expensive piece of sports memorabilia goes to a jersey worn by Jordan during Game 1 of the 1998 NBA Finals, fetching a staggering $10.1 million in September 2022.
