In a scenario that seems improbable but sparks excitement among fans and former NBA players alike, there’s one off-season proposition for the Warriors that garners attention.
While current players may have differing opinions, the absence of Steph Curry, LeBron James, or Kevin Durant in the second round of the NBA playoffs for the first time since 2005 has ignited speculation about their futures. With James and Durant facing uncertain offseasons, speculation about their next destinations is rampant.
Enter former Warriors and Lakers guard Nick Young, who floated an intriguing idea on the latest episode of VLAD TV. “I think all three of them need to come together,” Young suggested. “That’d be good. I don’t see him [Curry] leaving the Warriors, so that’s why it could be [in the Bay]. But they are playing on the USA team together this year. One last hurrah.”
Young’s sentiments echo the desires of many fans, and he’s not alone in his thinking. Hall of Fame forward Kevin Garnett, speaking on the “All the Smoke” podcast, expressed a similar sentiment, adding veteran guard Chris Paul to the mix. “If I’m Bron, I’m rolled up, already lit. I got the five lines in front of me,” Garnett mused. “I got the phones out right here. I got KD on one line, and I got CP on one line. I got Steph on one line. And we are catching up. This is the first time I think that all the old superstars can be on one team and go out with a hurrah.”
While the idea of Steph Curry, LeBron James, and Durant teaming up in Golden State tantalizes fans and pundits, the financial and roster obstacles facing the Warriors make such a scenario highly unlikely. Nonetheless, the prospect of a reunion with Durant, in particular, might be more feasible.
For now, fans can look forward to seeing Curry, James, and Durant unite on Team USA this summer, providing a glimpse of what could have been in the NBA.
