The entire saga of James Harden’s potential trade to the Clippers was a remarkable and sometimes perplexing ordeal to witness. Despite Harden’s exceptional season with the 76ers, James Harden’s career at risk if the Clippers trade fails as there was reportedly little interest in him on the trade market.
This lack of trade interest, according to former NBA general manager Ryan McDonough, may have resulted from a lack of interest in him during free agency. This has raised questions about Harden’s future in the NBA. From the perspective of the former Suns’ GM, it’s essential for Harden to ensure a successful partnership with the Clippers, as failure to do so could lead to an early end to his career.
Ex-NBA GM Predicts James Harden’s Career at Risk If Clippers Trade Fails
“I believe there’s minimal individual interest in Harden. The majority of teams are not inclined to acquire him at any price, not even at a non-guaranteed minimum, where he would have to prove himself,” McDonough remarked on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
McDonough further added, “What could be worrisome is if Harden, after going through all of this, ends up in L.A., and without displaying any remorse or self-reflection, his initial comments are ‘I am the system.'” He continued, “…Success in L.A. is crucial. If it doesn’t work out, there’s a chance that he may not be in the league next year.”
While McDonough’s insights on the limited interest in trading or offering a lucrative contract to Harden are valid, it’s difficult to envision a scenario where no team would sign the ten-time All-Star to any form of contract if he struggles to integrate effectively with the Clippers.
