After departing the NBA in 2020, Dwight Howard has been determined to show that seasoned NBA players can still excel. He has found success with the Taiwan Mustangs, winning a championship in The Asian Tournament (TAT) and becoming the team’s owner. He intends to guide his team with the same level of influence that Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal once had for the LA Lakers.

A Hint at a New Duo

Howard subtly revealed his upcoming intentions by posting a Kobe-Shaq GIF on his Twitter account. His description, “My league next year with Patrick Beverley 👀🤔,” has initiated speculation about a possible collaboration between Howard and Beverley in TAT. Beverley recently made the decision to leave the NBA and start playing for Hapoel Tel Aviv BC in Israel, but Howard remains optimistic. In a tweet, he expressed his desire for Beverley to join his league by saying, “Hey Pat, you should have come to play with me 😒.”

The Kobe-Shaq Influence

Howard has always looked up to the Kobe-Shaq partnership, even declaring them the greatest in NBA history. During his podcast Above the Rim with D12, he praised their chemistry for establishing the benchmark for powerful pairs, explaining, “Kobe and Shaq added an extra spark to the center and guard tandem.” They popularized the one-two punch. Even after their previous disagreement over the Superman moniker, Howard still has high admiration for the iconic duo of him and Shaq.

Looking Forward

Should Patrick Beverley decide to sign with the Taiwan Mustangs, Dwight Howard could potentially fulfill his desire to form a successful tandem akin to Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal. Fans are excited about the prospect of these two NBA veterans leading a team in The Basketball Tournament (TAT), as it could help Howard get closer to his ultimate goal of dominating the league.
