The Detroit Pistons have been a source of frustration for their fans in recent seasons. It’s not just the consistent losses; it’s the frequent Detroit Pistons’ injury and absence of key players that have plagued them.
Last season was anticipated as a turning point for the Pistons, but it took a downturn when Cade Cunningham was sidelined in the 12th game, leading to a season of struggles.
This season, staying healthy is crucial for the Pistons to achieve their goal of being competitive throughout the year. However, their chances have already been hampered.
Even before the preseason commenced, the roster suffered a setback with Isaiah Livers spraining his ankle, forcing him to sit out for another 4-6 weeks. The Pistons were already thin at the forward position, and Livers’ recurring injury is a setback for him, considering he has yet to begin a season injury-free.
Detroit Pistons’ Injury
While Cade Cunningham and Jalen Duren missed preseason games due to minor injuries, they are expected to be ready for the regular season opener in Miami.
However, according to Mike Curtis of the Detroit News, the Pistons will start the 2023-24 season without two key veteran players:
Bojan Bogdanovic and Monte Morris are both ruled out for the season opener against the Heat, and Killian Hayes is still day-to-day with a sprained knee. Detroit is once again facing the start of the season with a shortage of key players.
Losing Bogdanovic, known for his shooting and spacing, and Morris, the presumed backup point guard with strong ball-handling and three-point shooting skills, is a significant setback. These were areas where the Pistons struggled during the preseason.
The hope is that these veterans won’t be sidelined for long, but it’s frustrating to commence another season without a full lineup. This not only diminishes the chances of winning but also forces head coach Monty Williams to adapt on the fly to rotations and player roles, which is especially challenging when the games hold real significance.
