Dariq Whitehead Undergoes Second Foot Surgery, Expected to Be Ready for NBA Training Camp

Dariq Whitehead, the talented Duke freshman forward and a highly touted prospect for the upcoming NBA draft, recently underwent a surgical procedure on his right foot. The surgery was performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York and was described by Dr. Martin O’Malley as a “revision operation with bone grafting for a fifth metatarsal Jones fracture.” Despite this setback, Whitehead is on the path to recovery and is anticipated to be in peak condition for the commencement of the NBA training camp.

Dr. O’Malley explained, “He will initiate his rehabilitation process in approximately two weeks, and we expect him to be fully prepared for active participation at the beginning of NBA training camp.”

Dariq Whitehead, who was projected as the 26th pick in ESPN’s mock draft on June 1, has been diligently meeting with several NBA teams in preparation for the draft on June 22, including discussions with teams positioned in the upper half of the draft board.

Hailing from Newark, New Jersey, Whitehead achieved the status of a McDonald’s All-American before joining Duke as a consensus top-10 draft prospect. Despite his initial injury, he managed to compete in 28 games, averaging 8.3 points in 20.7 minutes while demonstrating an impressive 43% success rate in 3-point shooting. Whitehead’s basketball journey began at Montverde Academy in Florida.
