Damion Lee of the Phoenix Suns is set to miss the start of training camp due to a right knee meniscus injury.
The announcement came from the Phoenix Suns on Sunday, revealing that wing Damion Lee had suffered a right knee meniscus injury during an on-court workout at the team’s practice facility last week. Unfortunately, the team has not provided a specific timeline for his return and mentioned that he will be out of action until further notice.
As the Suns gear up for the commencement of training camp on Tuesday, they will have 19 players on the roster (including 17 on the standard roster and two two-way players, Udoka Azubuike and Saben Lee), according to sources cited by The Republic.
To comply with NBA regulations, teams must reduce their roster to 15 standard players before the start of the 2023-24 regular season. Furthermore, teams can accommodate up to three two-way players as part of their setup.
The Suns’ regular season is set to kick off on October 24th, with an opening night clash against the Golden State Warriors.
In terms of potential roster adjustments, two players who might be on the move are Keon Johnson, acquired in the Deandre Ayton trade, and Ish Wainright. Johnson is currently in the third year of a four-year deal that features club options in the final year, with the deadline to pick up his club option being October 31st. Wainright, who originally joined the Suns as a two-way player, is in the last year of his two-year contract.
Regarding Damion Lee, he is coming off an impressive season from beyond the arc, shooting at a rate of 44.5% from three-point range in a career-best 74 games. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, Lee contributed an average of 8.2 points and three rebounds during his first season with the Suns. This came after his NBA championship-winning stint with the Golden State Warriors in the 2021-22 season. Lee agreed to a two-year deal worth $5.3 million with the Suns this summer after a one-year deal with the team last season.
