Gilbert Arenas stirred up discussions about NBA coaching on his podcast, Gil’s Arena, in a recent episode. During a playful bid for the position of head coach for the Washington Wizards, Gilbert disclosed the reasons behind his lack of genuine interest in coaching. “In the current game, you have to act as both the coach and the GM,” stated Gilbert. He stressed that the unequal power dynamic between coaches and general managers frequently results in the coach being blamed for bad roster choices. “If I can’t succeed with your choice, who will you terminate?” “I,” Gilbert joked.
He also made a lighthearted comment about desiring a situation similar to Pat Riley’s, where he could coach and transition into a comfortable position in the front office. Arenas determined that coaching carries too much risk, as one poor season can frequently result in someone losing their job.
Arenas Trolls Doc Rivers with AI Jabs
The trolling continued beyond that point. Arenas accused former Wizards coach Doc Rivers, who is now with the Milwaukee Bucks, of using artificial intelligence to land his new job. Arenas made a joke on his podcast about Doc having to utilize artificial intelligence. He was unable to utilize his genuine belongings.
He joked by presenting a fake resume and said he was applying for the Wizards’ coaching position. Arenas avoided commenting on the AI-generated resume by redirecting the joke towards Rivers, questioning his coaching tactics. The doctor provides excessive coaching. Arenas asserted that he is hindering the Bucks’ progress.
No Stranger to Coaching—Sort Of
While making jokes about the coaching profession, Arenas has also dabbled in it. During 2019, he was the coach for the Enemies team in Big 3 but didn’t qualify for the playoffs and was later replaced by Nick Young.
Currently, he appears satisfied focusing on podcasting and humor instead of coaching in the intense NBA environment.
