Russell Westbrook keeps making an impact outside of basketball by revealing the newly expanded Westbrook Academy campus in South Gate, California, on Monday. During a ribbon-cutting event, Westbrook expressed his plans to empower students in South and Southeast Los Angeles.
A State-of-the-Art Campus
The recently established facility, which is a part of Westbrook Academy established in 2021, provides more than just traditional classrooms. Students in grades 6-12 now have the opportunity to use a film studio, science labs, two wellness centers, and a student lounge. These new elements aim to offer a comprehensive educational experience, promoting both academic and personal development.
Russell Westbrook collaborated with his spouse Nina, longtime business partner Donnell Beverly, and the LA Promise Fund to bring the academy to life. Their shared goal is to generate chances for marginalized communities.
Community Support and NBA Connections
Westbrook’s post on Instagram regarding the event was widely backed by the NBA community. Athletes such as Stephen Curry, Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant, and Trae Young showed approval for the post. While ex-players Jalen Rose, Victor Oladipo, and Carlos Boozer offered words of support.
A New Chapter in Denver
On the basketball court, Russell Westbrook recently agreed to join the Denver Nuggets following three seasons in LA playing for the Lakers and Clippers. He teams up with current MVP Nikola Jokić in the chase for the elusive title that would perfect his outstanding career.
