The Auburn forward, Jabari Smith Jr., had been the favorite at -125 to be selected first when the odds for the top draft pick opened on May 17. Meanwhile, three days before the draft pick begins at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, his price had risen to -180 to go first overall.
Gonzaga big man Chet Holmgren, the second favorite to win the race overall, saw his odds increase from +145 on May 17 to +175 as of June 20.
The Duke forward Paolo Banchero’s odds to be selected first overall have increased from +500 to +800, while the Purdue guard Jaden Ivey’s odds have decreased from 40/1 to 100/1.
The odds significantly increased after the top four players, indicating that oddsmakers probably consider Chet Holmgren or Jabari Smith Jr. the top pick. Based solely on odds, it would appear that the New Orleans Pelicans would be interested in signing players like guard Bennedict Mathurin from Arizona (+30000), forward Ochai Agbaji from Kansas (+30000), and guard and forward Marjon Beauchamp from the NBA G League Ignite (+75000).
