The New Orleans Pelicans were set back unexpectedly when Zion Williamson was unable to play in their first regular season game against the Chicago Bulls. The head coach, Willie Green, verified that Williamson was not feeling well and had missed the game. “He’s been ill for the past few days … It’s simply a virus of some kind,” Green clarified ahead of the game.

Hopes for Quick Recovery

The Pelicans remain positive regarding Williamson’s comeback despite his absence. Green hoped that Williamson could return to the team in time for their upcoming West Coast road trip, which starts in Portland on Friday. The Pelicans’ roster relies heavily on the 6-foot-6 power forward, who scored an average of 22.9 points per game in the previous season.

Williamson’s Injury History Continues

Even though Williamson participated in a record-setting 70 games last season, his absence on Wednesday meant that he has now missed a total of 207 regular season games since joining the NBA in 2019. Injuries have significantly impacted his career, resulting in him playing only 184 games in four seasons. Nevertheless, when in good health, Williamson has proven to be a dominant player, maintaining an impressive 24.7 points per game average over the course of his career.

Eyes on the Road Ahead

With the Pelicans getting ready for their upcoming game, supporters are excited to witness Williamson’s complete recovery. His attendance is crucial for the team’s goal of succeeding in a challenging Western Conference. There is optimism that this sickness will only be a brief obstacle, enabling Zion to promptly return to his strong performance in basketball.
