After seven years in the NBA,  Cedi Osman Heads to EuroLeague. The 29-year-old forward spent six seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers and most recently had a stint with the San Antonio Spurs; now, he has decided to continue his career with Greek powerhouse Panathinaikos. This move seals a serious shift for Osman, who now turns to make noise in the EuroLeague.

Osman was a staple off the bench last season under Spurs coach Gregg Popovich. Averaging 17.6 minutes, he played in 72 games with three starts. He contributed 6.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.7 assists per game on 38.9% three-point shooting and 47.9% field goal shooting. That said, Osman has opted for a new adventure in Europe despite his sustained presence in the NBA.

A Starring Role in Europe

Rather than stick in the NBA, where he could have found another rotational role, Cedi Osman chose a more significant opportunity with Panathinaikos. Going overseas to Greece, Osman not only takes on a starring role but also takes on a lighter schedule that should enable him to focus more on his playing career and be closer to home.

Cedi Osman Heads to EuroLeague, with his participation in the EuroLeague, a new opportunity opens up for Osman to cement his position among the best in Europe. This deal seems more about professional development compared to the financial aspect, as he will take over a leadership role with one of the best European clubs. Osman’s signing paves the way for a derbies galore against Olympiacos, given that both Greek powerhouses have now made their respective statement signings in the lead-up to the season.

A Potential Return to the NBA

It might mean the end of his NBA stint for the meantime, but Osman’s basketball career is far from over. At 29, he is young enough and could always make a return to the NBA should he decide to make another stint. For now, however, he focuses on EuroLeague competition, where he fights to make a mark and help Panathinaikos compete for titles.

Moving to Europe for a starring role away from the NBA might turn out to be the defining moment in Osman’s career. If he fits in well with his new team and league, this leap might seal his legacy among the best talents European basketball has seen.
