The Los Angeles Lakers are getting ready for the next season and making changes to their team. Lakers announce signing of Veteran Jordan Goodwin, an experienced NBA guard, to help out in the backcourt as training camp gets closer. Goodwin, who stands 6-foot-3 used to play for the Washington Wizards, Phoenix Suns, and Memphis Grizzlies. He brings strong defense and can play different positions, which will help the Lakers’ lineup.
We don’t know the details of Goodwin’s contract yet, but it’s likely a non-guaranteed deal for training camp with some specific terms (Exhibits 9 and 10). This means Goodwin can show what he’s got during training camp without taking up one of the Lakers’ limited roster spots. The Lakers have already filled all 15 of their regular spots and their three two-way positions. So, Goodwin will need to work hard to earn a place in a packed backcourt.
The Lakers added and then let go of 2023–24 two-way forward Alex Fudge earlier today, which brought their training camp roster to its limit of 21 players. All-NBA stars LeBron James and Anthony Davis will lead the Lakers into the new season. New head coach JJ Redick is likely to start D’Angelo Russell, Austin Reaves, and Rui Hachimura alongside them.
Goodwin, however, faces tough competition for minutes on the court. Lakers announce signing of Veteran Guard Jordan. Where Lakers bench already includes skilled players like Christian Wood, Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt, and rookie guard Bronny James. His performance at training camp will play a big role in determining if he makes it onto the final roster.
Goodwin shows promise despite challenges. At Saint Louis University, he made the All-Atlantic 10 First Team twice and the All-Defensive Team once. In his final year, he put up 14.5 points, 10.1 rebounds, 3.9 assists, and 2.0 steals per game. Over three NBA seasons, Goodwin played 121 games averaging 6.4 points, 3.8 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 0.9 steals per game. His G League stats with the Capital City Go-Go stand out even more. He spent two seasons there averaging 16.4 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 4.7 assists.
The Lakers now have another experienced player to choose from as they look to strengthen their team before training camp begins. To stay with a team aiming for a long playoff run, Goodwin must impress in the coming weeks.
