On Friday morning, the Dallas Mavericks sign a new broadcast deal with TEGNA, marking a significant step towards improving local access for fans. Thanks to this deal, Mavericks fans will now be able to watch games that aren’t nationally televised for free. After previous difficulties with Bally Sports Southwest, this arrangement ensures that supporters can comfortably follow their team throughout the entire season.
Expanded Broadcast Reach
Games will be televised across the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex by TEGNA affiliates WFAA (Ch. 8) and KMPX (Ch. 29), with WFAA airing a minimum of 15 games. In addition, the agreement extends the Mavericks’ broadcast reach throughout Texas by including TEGNA stations in Waco, Tyler, Midland-Odessa, Abilene, and San Angelo.
This decision follows a turbulent period when Mavericks fans faced challenges accessing games through Bally Sports Southwest. A few weeks ago, Bally’s parent company, Diamond Sports Group, announced their broadcast schedule for several teams, notably excluding the Mavericks. As Diamond Sports grappled with bankruptcy, the Mavericks and the New Orleans Pelicans opted not to extend their contracts, opening the door for this new alliance with TEGNA. Toward the end of last season, WFAA broadcast several Mavericks games, hinting at the move away from Bally.
Mavericks sign a new broadcast deal, this new arrangement is a welcome change for Mavericks fans. With local channels now accessible through basic antenna connections, more supporters can tune in to cheer on their team. The agreement also demonstrates the Mavericks’ dedication to maintaining a close relationship with their local community. By guaranteeing that fans won’t miss out on the action due to broadcasting issues, the team strengthens its bond with its supporters.
Upcoming Games
The Dallas Mavericks will play their preseason opener against the Memphis Grizzlies on October 7 at the American Airlines Center. The regular season kicks off on October 24 with a nationally televised game on TNT, where the Mavericks will face their division rival, the San Antonio Spurs. The first locally televised game under the new TEGNA partnership will take place on October 26, when the Mavericks play against the Phoenix Suns.
Broadcast details continue to emerge, including which services may carry KMPX. Mavericks fans can be confident that they will have better access to their team’s games this season. This new deal represents a positive development, making it easier than ever for fans to support the Mavericks as they strive for success on the court.
