An ESPN survey conducted by Tim Bontemps gathered insights from 18 coaches, scouts, and executives, with Gilgeous-Alexander receiving seven votes and Dončić receiving five votes. Anthony Edwards, Nikola Jokić, and Jayson Tatum each received two votes as well.

The ascension of Gilgeous-Alexander as the standout player on the Oklahoma City Thunder, one of the premier teams, remains a focal point of interest. Last year, he came in second place in the MVP race after Jokić, confirming his position as one of the top five MVP contenders for the last two seasons. In the 2023-24 season, he managed to achieve an average of more than 30 points, five rebounds, and five assists per game with his impact on both offense and defense. The Thunder improved their team by acquiring Alex Caruso and Isaiah Hartenstein in the offseason, enhancing their chances of winning a championship.
